Undisclosed Vulnerability in Pix Firewalls
Sunday, July 09, 2006
As a Perimeter customer you are receiving this alert to notify you of a potential vulnerability that was announced affecting the Cisco Pix firewall software.  The following bulletin is meant to provide you with information about the vulnerability and the steps that Perimeter Internetworking has taken to protect its customer base.

During the annual BlackHat conference this week, a security researcher demonstrated how an unpatched vulnerability in the Cisco’s PIX firewall appliances could allow outside attackers to gain access to corporate networks.  The presentation was restricted to a small group of individuals in attendance and has not been made available to the public. Little information is still known at this time about the vulnerability or the steps required to exploit it.

Cisco is diligently researching the vulnerability but has yet to make a public announcement regarding details of a potential fix.  As one of a few MSSP partner’s of Cisco, Perimeter receives pre-market information regarding vulnerabilities on security products.  To date, Perimeter has been in constant contact with our Cisco resources who have assured us that we will know in advance before any information is made public.  This advance notice will allow us to protect our client base before the general Internet community has the ability to exploit the vulnerability.

If you have any questions regarding this bulletin or the Cisco vulnerability please do not hesitate to call our us!
